Dry pack canner use

The following is a message from Mary Ann Degn.

We have had questions about the possibility of taking our own products to the dry pack cannery to have them sealed in cans. That is no longer allowed because of the possibility of contamination. We have, however, been able to reserve a canner to bring into the ward. We will have it from noon on this Tuesday, the 29th, until Thursday morning. We have to have it back to the cannery by Thursday at noon. If you are interested, here's the game plan. Mary Ann Degn will pick up the machine and any cans, lids, etc. that people need. If you are not able to get the money to Mary Ann by 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday and still want to participate, you could pick them up yourself at the cannery (165 E 2200N in North Logan - 752-6425). The cost of cans+lids+oxypacks (used for everything but sugar) = $.60 a piece. For every 6 cans a plastic lid will be provided free of charge. They will not let us return any unused cans, so try to figure it exactly. According to their calculations, this is the amount you will need.
Weight in lbs. - Product - No. of cans
25 - Black Beans - 4 1/2
25 - Pinto Beans - 4 3/4
25 - White Beans - 4 3/4
25 - Powered Milk - 6
25 - White Rice - 4 1/3
25 - Sugar, granulated - 4
25 - Wheat, Hard Red - 4 1/3
25 - Wheat, Hard White - 4 1/3
15 - Apple Slices - 11 1/2
25 - Carrots - 9
20 - Macaroni - 5 3/4
25 - Oats, Quick - 9 2/3
25 - Oats, Regular - 9 1/4
35 - Onions, Dry - 12 1/2
25 - Potato Flakes - 13 3/4
25 - Spaghetti - 5 3/4
25 - Beans, Refried - 10 1/2
25 - Cocoa Mix, Hot - 4 1/3
25 - Flour, White - 5 1/4
25 - Fruit Drink Mix - 4

We hope this gives you an idea. Obviously, you can fill these cans with anything you want.
If you are interested in taking advantage of this canner, please call Mary Ann Degn (245-3467) for an appointment time. The canner will be in her garage ( unless anyone has a better idea). We hope this will be of use to the members of the ward. Remember, -the money for the cans needs to be to Mary Ann no later than 10:00 a.m. this Tuesday if you would like her to pick them up for you.

P.S. Irene Lusk is passing on a tip about her favorite powdered milk substitute. Macey's currently has Morning Moo Milk for $109 for a 50 lbg. bag. On the 16th of August it will go on sale for $79.
